Verbal Landscapes

We are on to our second project called retime nature. We go out and take time lapses and slow motion videos. We are sticking with our theme of poetry and making a 60 second video of nature. There are many ways that nature impacts my life. One way is that I love to hunt and hike, if there was no nature there would be no interesting places to hike and no place for animals to live so i wouldn't be able to hunt anywhere. I go to the beach at least one a week and that is like my safe place. I like to go there when I feel angry or sad because the water cools me down and makes me feel very calm. Certain places in nature has a certain impact on me like Anahola beach is where my Great-Grandma was scattered is where I like to be almost all the time I get to go to the beach.

Time lapses are videos that have are set to take a certain amount of frames every second. Slow-mos are videos that have been slowed down to make everything seem slower. There are different ways to actually create time lapses and slow mos. One way that you can create a time lapse is with your phone. If you have an Iphone there is a time lapse and slow mo feature is you scroll all the options to the left. The other way to create them is taking a normal video with either a camera or phone and uploading it onto your computer. You can use final cut pro's re time editing tool to speed up your clip or slow it down. If you try to create a slow mo with final cut pro it doesn't look as normal as it would on a phone but time lapses come out just fine.

The hardest part of this project was probably catching a really nice sunset because every night for the past few days has like a really pink sky but gray clouds were covering them up. Something else that was hard was creating my poem because I wanted it to be meaningful and make sense. My favorite part about this project was probably filming the sunrises because it make me think of how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place and get to wake up everyday. Waking up early to shoot the sunrises didn't bother me because I get up at six and the sun actually comes up at around 6:20. I also liked that I got to use Final cut pro because I never got to use it before since we were always using Imovie. I also liked that we could work by our selves first because we get to practice using Final cut pro before working in a team.

Critique Reflection:
I agree with the critiques but the thing I could have done better in is the text layovers. I feel that I could have added colors and different fonts to make it pop and look different. I could have also re filmed some of the shots cause they were a little shaky. Other than that I thought that I did pretty good.

Poetic Design

HEY Guys, We started are new school year a few weeks ago and we had the option of creating a new blog or keeping our old one. I decided to keep this one because it has all of my 6 and 7 grade work, since I chose to do this I will now have all of my middle school work on here: Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth!!! Our first project as 8th grade G.T students is creating a poetic design. I think that poetry is a way for people to expresses how they think about the things revolving around them. I also think poetry is a literature that uses sounds and symbols that help create meaning of the poem. Poetry is a form of art that uses words instead of paint and crayons. I feel that Poetry is used as a way for people to express their feelings and their way of thinking.

Anahola beach where my Puna rests
I strive to do good on my tests
My life is like a painting
Always colorful never tainting
You only have one lifetime
So do your best in the  meantime

The rhythm of rhyme I used in my poetic statement is aa,bb,cc. It rhymes for two sentences then changes to another rhyme then repeats the pattern. I used rhyme because in poems it tends to rhyme a lot and because in order to write this paragraph I had to use it. Rhyme is the easiest one for me because I know a lot of rhyming words and there are a lot of websites that help you find rhyming words. When it comes to rhythm it is a bit harder because you actually have to come up with the rhythm your self. But it can also be easy if you use the rhyming words .When something has rhythm it flows into the next sentence and so forth.

Tiny Spherical Worlds

Hey guys, I would like to introduce our new project. In our new project my class and I are making polar panoramas and spherical panos. Well composite images are created from combing several different pictures to go beyond the limitations of a camera. With one picture it wouldn't be as high quality as a normal picture. The point of composite images is to go BEYOND the limitations of a normal camera. A normal camera doesn't take 10 different pictures and put them together. When you take composite pictures it makes your picture better because you get one big picture to make it look really cool.

Two composite images we are doing right now is polar and spherical panos. Polar and spherical panos are different because polar panos look like little tiny worlds. Spherical panos look like a crystal ball. The polar pano looks like it could be a world in a world. It looks like a world because the background is black and the pictures is feathered so that it fades into the outer darkness. The polar panoramas also look more realistic because they have a feathered and black background. If you added some other planters with it it will look like a solar system.
So my finished and final tiny worlds will look very convincing because they have a black background and they have a feathered fade in it. The feather will make it look really cool because it acts like a fade and the world is in outer darkness. The other reason why it makes it look really convincing is the fact that it is in a ball and it looks like I'm standing in that ball. When I put my portrait in there I am going to make it look like i am coming out of the world because I'm gonna add a shadow effect on it to make it look like the sun is facing me and i'm not melting.

2016 Aspirations

Happy New Year!!! Now that I am in school again my teacher, Mr. Sanderl, has given us a post again. In this post we will be talking about our goals for 2016. I will be sharing 5 of my most important goals that I want to accomplish this year. A goal I want to accomplish this year is being able to take gnarly pictures that inspires me. Another goal that I would like to accomplish this year would have to be get better at surfing and bodyboarding. In 2015 I learned how to throw net and dive at night. This year I would like to become an expert at doing this. Overcoming my fear of heights and sharks is my main goal for 2016.Another goal I want to success this year is hike over 40 miles this summer and catch at least 1 goat and 1 pig. I would also like to get faster for sports and to just be in shape. I think overall most of my goals is too be fit and in shape.

The most important goal that I would like to accomplish this year is overcoming my fear of sharks and height. I would like to overcome these fears because I am going back to Disneyland and California adventure. I am going back to Disneyland because my Tutu is retiring this year I would like to celebrate it with us. In California Adventure there is this one particular ride I would like to go on called California Screamin'. The last time I went to disneyland I didn't go on this ride because I was too chicken but this year that will change. When you first go on the ride it starts off at like 60 MILES an hour!!! Then there is all those big dips and the dip at the end that is really high and I think that I would die but I will never know unless I try. Being able to conquer my fear of sharks would be wonderful because every time I go night diving or surfing I freak out. There is this one particular Hawaiian legend that talks about amakuas or guardians. My amakua's are the owl and shark.  I think that this should calm me down because it's supposed to be my guardian and protect me.

Sooooo in order to make sure that I get this goal down I will have to go through a series of steps. My first step for the sharks problem is to research on sharks and how to see if they are aggressive at the moment or not. My first step for my height problem is too ask my sister about how the heights really feel. THen for both my second steps I will practice it out on easy rides like the fireball and baby sharks on the south shore. When I get to the third step it will depend on how the second step and if it doesn't work out then I will research some ore but if it does work out then I will go in with even bigger things like Tower of terror and reef sharks. Then it will co e to the day when I can go into the water with blue sharks and lemon sharks and not get killed. I will also go on rides with the biggest drops like California screamin' and be happy. When this is all over my fears will be accomplished and I can learn something new about myself. In the end I think these are pretty easy fears to overcome because some people are afraid of clowns, lizards, spiders, and dogs so it can't be that hard to overcome.

My Humorous Monologue

What's up everyone!! The most important thing I've learned from this project was probably to copy your work before you edit it your HTML because on Thursday I had to make it all over because I deleted it all. I felt very stupid but then I looked at everything else I learned. Like how I learned that when you work with yourself it can be harder since you have no one to lean on except yourself. Especially since you have to work on a lot of sin a very short time and you always leave it for the week before the project is due. Another thing I learned is Patience because when working with yourself you always feel like it isn't gonna be the best and lower your self confidence. In all I learned that when working by yourself you can have a very very very hard time.

Pad is when you add extra rolling time to your film. You should add pad to your film because when you don't your voice or monologue gets cut off. I added pad to my film hopefully because I knew that it was crucial. I also did to my partners Ashley Alfiler and not sure if she did the same for me. If you haven't already you should go and check my work and see if I did. When you are finished watching you should go and comment and tell me if you did. When I think padding your clips I think of adding extra protection to my film.

Okay guys I don't want to admit this but my biggest weakness was the lighting. Lighting was my biggest challenge because I was filming on the inside of my house and the lighting wasn't very good. My biggest strength was probably getting my 5 year old brother (at the time 4) to help me with this project. I practically bribed him into doing this by telling him I would make him caramel popcorn, ice cream, and giving him money. One way I could improve is by leaving more pad not in film but in time. I should have left pad in time so I wasn't rushing and I could have added music, more transitions, and maybe even effects.

Lyrical Livelihood

My favorite song is Sugar by Maroon 5. The songs lyrics make me feel very powerful and feel like I have someone that care for me. I like most of the chorus for that song like, Sugar yes please won't you come and bring it down on me. Sugars official music video  makes me laugh because they are crashing real weddings in L.A and the people are like what the heck but then the curtains go down and everyone just starts screaming. I think that this song is very catchy and that a lot of people listen to it. A group in our class is singing this song and I would like to see how they act it out.

My team this project was Makaio, Ala, and Me.The song  our team picked was Everybody got someone but me by Hunter Hayes. We picked this song because Makaio was like hey guys do you want to do the song by hunter Hayes featuring Jason Mraz. We didn't have any other song we agree to also. This song is mainly a love song and how they are at the park singing and everyone around them has someone to love but they don't. Jason Mraz is so desperate that he tries to engage and have a relationship with someone who is around 70 years old. Soon after this this old lady was soon approached by her husband who gave her the hearing aid she was missing. At the end both singer left the park on separate benches alone with no one.

The Visual story that our music video will show is three kids waking up doing their own thing and then at the end they meet each other. My job in this video will be lip syncing at the field looking at all the kids who have friends and people to play with. Makaio's job in this video is to lip sync and pretend to fall asleep in one of his classes and then wake up and start to lip sync. Ala plays a huge part in this story because he walks down the hall alone and films almost all the scenes and edits them with the help of me and Makaio. At the end we all "coincidentally" go to the park and meet each other. In the end instead of the ending that the music video gave the people we gave them our own twist, so that they would get friends and not be alone.

Double Exposed Portraits

Portrait photography is a photo of a person or a group of people that shows expression or personality of the subject or someone. The focus of the photo is usually the person's face although the entire body and the background may be included. Portrait photography relates to profile view and silhouetting because they all include the outlining of a person and the main focus in all of them is always the persons face. They also all have something to do with of course taking a picture of someone or a group. They are different because silhouetting is the color outlined black of a person, profile view is just a side of one persons face, and portrait photography is a main focus of someones face in the picture.

To create a double exposures  in photoshop you click on File>Scripts>Load Files Into Stack. Then a screen pops up you will  press browse and choose your photos, Then you press ok. Then you crop your profile and use the dodge tool too make your background white so your image only has your face as color. After that you double-click your layers and press screen mode for all of them. When your done with all of that you can press image and click new adjustment layer and explore and create your double exposure image. Remember avoid happy accidents. You want too make a double exposure because it looks beautiful with all the colors you choose and also because you would probably feel amazing about yourself for creating one.

My symbols are burgers from in and out burgers and Kalalea the mountain. I chose the burgers to represent me because I like to eat food and that was the best burger place I have ever ate at. Kalalea represent me because my great great grandpa died on that mountain and I can see it from my back yard. These are the  the reasons why I chose these pictures. I could have improved by moving the burgers up a little bit in my face. Kalalea could have gone more up like in my neck.
